Dealing with ADHD and other learning disabilities
Brain Gym in South Africa Logo
Many people are looking for holistic, drug-free solutions for learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD and Dyslexia.

What Causes Learning Disabilities?

Learning Disabilities
People often don't realise that learning disabilities and physical challenges often go hand-in-hand.  For example, a child that lacks the strength in their gross-muscle groups to sit up straight or the ability to hold a pen properly - very often manifests as difficulty with writing.  Often we don't even realise these little physical challenges in our own daily lives that hold us back.

In our Brain Gym one-on-one sessions (called a balance) we identify which physical skills may be inhibiting you and/or your child and then we work on developing those skills.

ADD and ADHD

ADHD & ADD
There are many contributing factors for ADD and ADHD including diet, allergies  and stress.  Dr. Carla Hannaford Phd calls ADD and ADHD children SOSOH beings (stressed out survival orientated human beings).  Much stress is caused by (early childhood) trauma and a lack of movement during early childhood.

The lack of movement during early childhood can cause:
  • Underdevelopment of gross motor muscles. These are needed to build on fine muscle coordination.
  • Lacking the ability to cross the midline, causing learning difficulties.
  • Lack of physical balance, which is the foundation for emotional and mental balance.
  • The early childhood reflexes might not be inhibited properly, which has a huge negative effect on behaviour and learning.
  • The eyes haven't learnt to team properly, which can lead to reading problems and other learning challenges.
  • Lack of deep breathing - our breath is our power.
  • Etc.
We have seen many people managing successfully in life, without the use of medication, by addressing these gaps during balances and in combination with doing Brain Gym exercises daily.

Dyslexia

Dyslexia
Does anybody really know what causes dyslexia?

There are many factors that may play a role in dyslexia.  What makes Brain Gym so effective is that we work with the body to show us what the causes are for the dyslexia in the person in front of us, and we address them from there.

One of the contributing factors that comes up a lot is that the dyslexic person lacks the physical skill of letting their eyes move smoothly across the pages.  There are sometimes psychological reasons as well.

There are a significant number of dyslexic people all over the world who are successfully improving their ability to read using Brain Gym exercises in conjunction with Brain Gym Balancing.
